Hunt Beyond:
Liam Glen

Name: Liam Glen

Hometown: Bristol, UK

Which bikes and HUNT wheels do you ride? I currently do most of my riding and racing on a Stooge Scrambler, but for 2024, I’ve got a snazzy Ti Stooge on the way. I’ll be racing on some prototype Proven Beyond Dynamo wheels.

Favourite riding experience to date? As a race experience, it has to be the 2021 Highland Trail 550 - I felt like I got everything out of myself over the course of those 3.5 days. Purely as a ride experience, traversing the French Alps in autumn 2022, using a mix of GR5 and TransProvence routes, is definitely up there on my all time list.

What are your plans for 2024? The main goal for 2024 is the Triple Crown. That is, racing the Tour Divide, Colorado Trail Race and Arizona Trail Race all within the same calendar year. This will be, by far, my most ambitious racing season yet.

What does riding or ultra racing mean to you? For me, riding always was and still is about the freedom to explore and discover new places. I’ve always been someone who likes to test their limits and that’s where ultra-racing comes in. I love the challenge of trying to hold it all together, both physically and mentally, when you’re multiple days into such an extreme effort.

Favourite ride snack: Aldi waffles are my current go to on day rides. For longer stuff, I’m partial to a nut heavy trail mix as I find I really start to crave more salty and savoury food after multiple days.

Soundtrack to your ride: I pretty much never listen to music whilst I’m riding as I like to take in all of my surroundings, including sounds. That said, I’ve often got songs playing on repeat in my head to which I hum along whilst riding. One song that always pops into my head when waking up in a tent is "Ways to the Sun", by Roesy, which I first came across watching "Bikes of Wrath" (great film).
