Project: Innovation Grant 2021-2027.
The goal of the project is to develop a modular bicycle hub platform that enablesdifferent applications (e.g. e-bikes, road bikes, MTBs) to be covered using as many common parts as possible, whilst ensuring interoperability. The modular system is intended to eliminate previous incompatibilities within the product portfolio. This will reduce overproduction for spare parts supply and simplify stock management. In addition, the manufacturability of the individual components is to be optimised in terms of resource use and in addition to technical standardisation, the project also aims to reduce product complexity across the entire life cycle – from development and manufacturing through to maintenance and recycling. Modularity enables greater scalability in production as well as easier adaptation to future requirements, for example due to changes in the regulatory framework or new market trends. Reusable subsystems also help to save resources in product maintenance. Furthermore, through the careful selection of materials and manufacturing processes, environmental objectives such as CO₂ reduction, waste prevention and energy efficiency can be better addressed. The modular platform thus offers not only technical but also economic and environmental benefits.
