The Pursuit of a Feeling
They say you always remember your firsts best: the moments of pure, unadulterated joy, the rush of adrenaline, and even the occasional "face-palm" of a questionable teenage decision.
Growing up in the 90s meant witnessing mountain biking in its most vibrant, experimental bloom. It was an era defined by neon kits, crazy anodised components, and a dizzying array of small brands innovating at breakneck speed. Back then, every new issue of a bike magazine felt like a portal to another world. For a teenager with a limited budget, those dreams welded in alloy and steel felt like unreachable stars, yet they fuelled an unstoppable passion that built my cycling personality.
Is there any better feeling than hammering downhill with the bare essentials? A simple bike, bib shorts, and a T-shirt fluttering against your "teenie" bones—it was pure, uncomplicated fun.
A Decade of HUNT & A Nostalgic Collaboration
Fast forward thirty years, and the search for that specific feeling continues. Anniversaries are the perfect milestone for such celebrations. As we mark 10 years of HUNT Wheels, I’m reminded of the shared passion that drove Tom and Pete Marchment to put the rider experience at the centre of every product we create.
To celebrate, we decided to invite our neighbours into the fold. The team at SOUR Cycles shared our vision of bringing one of the most iconic colorways of the 90s back to life. Together, we’ve created a "Time Traveling Machine"—a bike designed to capture the exact essence of the ride I’ve been chasing for decades.
The Build: Modern Soul, Vintage Heart
Carefully curated with a selection of New Old Stock (NOS) parts and cutting-edge modern technology, this build is destined to become a future classic. But despite the polished finish and the nostalgia-heavy aesthetics, this bike isn't meant for a display case. It’s about to hit the trails and get covered in the dirt where it belongs.
Regardless of how beautiful the machine is, we must always remember: It’s a tool, not a jewel.
