The Purpose _

The HUNT Gravel Race 700c wheelset was designed to offer super-sharp performance on the path less pedalled. The line between road and gravel has never been more blurred, so we built a wheelset that could excel on gravel and fast off-road segments, while providing the responsiveness and durability riders demand.
Lightweight 6069-T6 alloy rims offer quick acceleration, combined with our straight-pull Sprint hubs, providing just 7.5 degrees of engagement. Whether going full gas on the flats or cresting over a climb, you’ll be ready for whatever terrain lies ahead.

Sprint Hubs

Race Season SPRINT straight-pull hubs, boasting an engagement rate of just 7.5 degrees owing to the leaf-sprung, multi-point pawls and 48 ratchets in the hub shell. Center-lock brake mount. Please note: If you require a 6-bolt adapter you can purchase separately here.

Spokes

Highly durable SAPIM CX-Ray, combining strength and flexibility to suit gravel racing. The nipples come with a square head so you can achieve precise tensioning.

HUNT recommends a 38mm tyre for best performance, tyre widths between 25mm and 54mm are also safe to use.   Note: best performance is usually gained by using tyre pressures lower than the maximum, you can see our blog post about this, read here.  Tubeless-ready for lower weight and rolling resistance.  You must not exceed the maximum tyre pressure limits set out in the table below or the maximum limit set by your tyre manufacturer if this is lower.

HIGH SPECIFICATION COMPONENTS _
Rims

A strong and lightweight 6069-T6 heat-treated rim. The rim profile is rounded and true disc specific which allows higher strength to weight. The rim dimensions are wide at 26mm (22mm internal) which creates a great tyre profile with wider 30-45mm tyres, giving excellent grip and lower rolling resistance.
Spokes

The SAPIM CX-Ray receives one of the best results in fatigue testing of any spoke. Its unique strength and flexibility make the CX-Ray suitable for the Gravel Race wheels. The nipples come with a square head so you can achieve precise tensioning. Combining these components well is key which is why all HUNT wheels are hand-built.
Freehub Body

Featuring 3 multi-point pawls with 3 teeth each and a 48t ratchet ring. The result an impressively low 7.5 deg engagement angle. Durability is a theme for HUNT, and so all our freehub bodies have Steel Spline Insert re-enforcements to provide excellent durability against cassette sprocket damage often seen on standard alloy freehub bodies.
Bearings

Bearings are the heart of any wheel and investing in them makes huge sense, so we went to Japanese bearing experts EZO and invested extra to spec their high-grade precision sealed cartridge bearings in our full range.
Nipples

To accompany these high-end spokes, we selected alloy nipples for our HUNT Gravel Race wheels. All with the goal to create the ultimate light weight, serviceable and durable wheels for gravel. To finish it off, we are using external spoke nipples to achieve ease of service so when running tubeless you won’t need to take off the rim tape to true. As well as the standard square body we chose nipples with a hex head so you can achieve precise tensioning.
Rim bed

H-Lock is our tubeless-ready rim bed profile with up-kicks to the shoulders of the tubeless steps which help to create a great rim-well seal for first installation and easy sealing of tubeless tyres. The H-Lock profile also locks the beads in place more securely once seated. This is especially important when running lower pressures off road.

Stated wheel weights: Our stated wheel weights reflect the wheelset only; without rim tape, tubeless valves or disc brake lock rings, as is industry standard. A 3% variance (lower or higher) in total system weight is normal for wheelset manufacturing.

All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh cobbled-rolling-road tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. Max system weight 130 kg (system weight – total weight of fully kitted up rider, bike and luggage). If the system is over 105 kg then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly.
