New Pro One Tubeless - 70g lighter than the 2015 One Tubeless
Schwalbe have launched the new 70g lighter Pro One Tubeless. Now only 230g for a 23mm and lower rolling resistance than the clincher version!
The Schwalbe Tubeless road tyres consistently win plaudits from journalists and customers alike. We have been testing them for a long time and have been very impressed. The One Pro's are Schwalbe's top of the range tyres and feature their triple compound tread so you get extremely low rolling-resistance combined with excellent grip and durability. In fact the Tubeless version of this tyre only has 17w rolling resistance against the clincher version which has 19w.This all comes with the added benefits of tubeless including great puncture protection. The tubeless beads on Schwalbe tyres have a flat edging and the new Mirco-Skin carbon tubeless layer makes them incredibly good at sealing with the rim bed and sidewall and very easy to fit.
The highly respected German Magazine TOUR said "Unbeatable with punctures... – the "self-repair" with sealant means that no tube can compare ... The Schwalbe PRO ONE (preformed ideally and can be installed without tools and is immediately sealed) weighs approx. 290 grams including 40 millilitres of sealant, while the Conti folding tyre with tubes weighs 320 grams."
Bicyclerollingresistance.com | "The new Pro One is the lowest rolling resistance tire I have tested to date."
Bikeradar.com | "Light weight, suppleness and ease of installation makes for the best road tubeless we have tested"
A truly thrilling ride. It's fast. It’s reliable. It’s light. The patented MicroSkin construction makes this all possible. - 70 g less weight, 15% less rolling resistance and improved cut resistance all around. This is the absolute top model from Schwalbe!
You can also use the Schwalbe Pro One with a normal tube, but its true strengths are experienced only in tubeless form
Tubeless Easy is the special Schwalbe technology for the next evolutionary level of the tubeless tyre. In practical terms, this means: A little liquid sealant is necessary, yet extensive conversion processes involving a lot of shaking and frequent re-pumping are not required. Compared to classic tubeless tyres, it is far easier to assemble.
MicroSkin: New key technology for Tubeless Easy. MicroSkin is the development which makes the difference compared to previous Tubeless tyres. The patented construction consists of a high-tensile micro fabric which is vulcanized together with the rubber compound and the carcass. MicroSkin envelops the entire carcass and facilitates a fault-free Tubeless Easy operation for high pressure tyres, not unlike SnakeSkin on an MTB tyre.
The new TUBELESS tyre is a new experience. With the new PRO ONE, the tubeless tyre provides ambitious sportsmen with significant benefits: It is faster, safer and lighter. All of those who have been able to ride with the PRO ONE have been impressed and immediately convinced. This is because the TUBELESS tyre with the PRO ONE does not only promise an advantage, the TUBELESS tyre with the PRO ONE is also a cycling experience.
In simple figures: The new Schwalbe PRO ONE is 25 percent lighter than the previous tubeless tyre. The new PRO ONE is faster. The rolling friction measurements show almost 25 percent less than a comparable folding tyre and over 40 percent less than tyres which are similarly resistant to puncturing, such as the DURANO. This is joined by an all-round superior level of cut resistance.
The new TUBELESS tyre is already being used by professionals. Martin Elmiger, Swiss champion of WorldTour Team IAM Cycling, and Sylvain Chavanel, have already put the tubeless tyre to the test in extreme conditions. There is no tougher challenge for either cyclists or tyres than the cobblestones of Paris-Roubaix. Their initial scepticism gave way to huge enthusiasm for the tubeless tyres. Both cyclists were amazed at the speed and comfort with which the tubeless tyres guided them over the hellish cobblestones. They didn't experience a single snake-bite, by far the most frequent cause of blow-outs on the Paris-Roubaix route. Both cyclists completed the race without a single puncture. Martin Elmiger came in at fifth place.
Roger Kluge, also from the IAM Team, has already tested the new tyres Down Under: "This tubeless tyre has rolling properties like a track tyre!" From a track specialist like Roger Kluge, this is a substantial compliment.
Fitting and Sealant
We will fit your tyres to your Hunt wheels prior to dispatch. Valves will be fitted, hand tightened and sealed around the valve base with a small amount of latex sealant. We fill the tyres with between 35 and 60ml of tubeless sealant (depending on tyre size) and the beads are fully mounted. We then run a small amount of sealant around the beads for quick and long lasting sealing. The tyres are inflated to maximum pressure and we then maneuver and rotate them to ensure sealant is dispersed well and a good seal all around the tyre is achieved. Your wheels and tyres are then left for several hours and checked for air leakage. Once everything is sealed correctly we lower the pressures to 50 psi for shipping and off they go. You receive your wheels and tyres set up and ready to go for hundreds, if not thousands, of miles of hassle free, low-rolling resistance, puncture-sealing riding.
Which size to run 23, 25, or 28mm?
Any of these three tyre sizes will work excellently with our wheels and provide great performance but advantages can be gained by selecting the tyre width to match your intended routes and types of riding.. While 23mm wide tyres are a great choice for many riders and have become the status quo over the past decade the consensus is shifting towards 25mm and in some cases even 28mm (even for pro-riders) as having lower rolling resistance, puncture protection and of course comfort/grip.
Weight is obviously a factor and if you can save some on the tyre that will make a bit of difference to climbing, so our view is if we're going to be doing rides/races with lots of climbing, where the descending speed/grip is not so important, then we would consider the 23mm option. We would also use 23mm tyres with our Race Season wheels for any short aero focused events such at time-trials and sprint/Olympic distance triathlons on smooth roads, as there is reasonable consensus that a narrower tyre than rim improves aerodynamics. For pretty much any normal events/riding we would go for 25mm to improve rolling resistance/speed, grip and comfort. We would use 28mm tyres with a lower pressure (around 85-95psi) for training, rough roads, cobbles, or super long events where reducing fatigue is essential.
There are several articles online regarding tyre width choice but here a is a really good article by the guys at RoadCyclingUK.com 'Should you be using wider tyres on your road bike?'
