The Purpose.

HUNT engineers collaborated with top gravel athletes to develop a gravel racing wheel system that combines category-leading aerodynamic performance for wide tyres with the responsiveness of a lightweight system when the course tilts up. The 5AM Gravel Limitless shares its rim profiles and Limitless Width Aero Technology with the Cyclingnews aero test-winning Ti_UD, laced with Pillar Super Wing spokes to create the most aerodynamic stainless steel spoke and hidden nipple combination we have ever developed. At 1447g per pair, with oversized rim beads to fend off race-ending pinch flats, the 5AM Gravel is built to carry speed and proven with victory at Gravel Mexico under the power of Hannah Shell, and 2nd at US Gravel National Championships by Sarah Lange.

Informed by HUNT’s 5-Stage Aero Development process, the Aero Maximised system concentrates aerodynamic gains at the leading edge of the bike, with a wider, deeper front rim profile where it encounters clean air and offers the most aerodynamic benefit. The rear wheel is optimised for weight reduction and responsiveness, creating a lightweight system, holistically engineered for efficiency and stability at high speeds.

Technology.

Designed from scratch by the HUNT engineering team to meet the future demands of high-speed gravel racing. Building on over ten years of aerodynamic and real-world rider testing, leveraging learnings from the 5-Stage Aero Development process, the HUNT 5AM Gravel Limitless wheel system was engineered to prioritise key performance benefits: aerodynamic drag reduction optimised for modern gravel racing tyres (45-50mm); pinch flat protection and race-ready durability; stability and predictability in changing wind conditions; and low system weight for responsiveness and climbing efficiency. These demands are achieved through front and rear-specific aero maximised wheel designs, which consider each component in the context of optimal system efficiency.

The front wheel runs through clean air, offering the greatest opportunity to reduce aerodynamic drag. By increasing rim depth and width, while minimising rotational drag with hidden spoke nipples, the 5AM Gravel maximizes aerodynamic efficiency where it matters most without compromising crosswind stability. The 45mm-wide external rim profile with 9mm-wide rim beads smooths the airflow from wide gravel tyres across the rim profile. The wide, blunt profile of the bead is designed to spread impact force, preventing pinch flats.

The rear wheel encounters turbulent airflow, downstream of the front wheel and tyre, frame, and rider movement, making rear wheel aerodynamic gains less important in the context of the complete system. Rear wheel efficiency is achieved by reducing weight and maximising power transfer. A shallower, narrower rim with a 5.5mm-wide bead provides efficient transmission of every watt to the ground, while preventing pinch flats.

The 5AM Gravel Limitless pairs these Aero Maximised rim profiles with all-new Pillar Super Wing stainless steel spokes, featuring the longest aerodynamic bladed section on the market. Combined with a new internal nipple interface that further reduces turbulence across the rim surface, it’s the most aerodynamic stainless steel spoke and hidden nipple combination we have ever developed, bringing the 5AM Gravel Limitless platform to a compliant, easily serviceable build at 1447gper pair.

In the wind tunnel, the 5AM Gravel Limitless proved fastest overall across the 12 wheels tested with 45mm tyres (0.24 watts faster than the DT Swiss GRC 50, and 0.63 watts faster than the Reserve 48|53 GR). Compared to the Zipp 303 XLPR SW, the 5AM Gravel Limitless saves 2.51 Watts with 45mm tyres and 1.09 watts with 50mm tyres, while weighing slightly less (3g). Read the full white paper here.

HUNT recommends a 45-54mm tyre for best performance, tyre widths between 40mm and 60mm are also safe to use. Only use tyres suitable for hookless (TSS) rims. If unsure, please contact the tyre manufacturer. Leading brands, including Schwalbe, Continental and Vittoria, have many tyres suitable for hookless TSS rims. You must not exceed the maximum tyre pressure limits set out in the table below or the maximum limit set by your tyre manufacturer if this is lower. Note: best performance is usually gained by using tyre pressures lower than the maximum, you can see our blog post about this, read here. Tubeless-ready for lower weight and rolling resistance.

Advanced Carbon Construction

5AM Gravel Limitless rims are made using a blend of T700, T800, and T1000 UD carbon fibers, with high-modulus Mitsubishi Pyrofil HR4012M - a material more common in aerospace, aviation and motorsport applications. This blend offers lateral and sidewall strength, enabling low weight without compromising durability or trueness. The high gloss finish resists dirt build up and helps minimise aerodynamic skin drag.

Hidden Spoke Nipples

A new internal nipple interface further reduces aerodynamic and rotational drag across the wheel system, while double square nipples retain the ability to true and replace spokes as needed.

H_Ratchet 48T DBL Hub System

The H_Ratchet 48T DBL is updated from the race-winning system developed for our 40 Limitless Gravel Aero wheelset. The ratchet system has been further improved with a new nickel coating, offering a quick 7.5° engagement angle and tested to survive over 100,000 cycles of 250Nm of torque (40% more torque than most other road and gravel-rated hubs).

All HUNT wheels come with a 3-year warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship. Coverage starts from the purchase date and applies to the original purchaser only.

Stated wheel weights: Our stated wheel weights reflect the wheelset only; without rim tape, tubeless valves or disc brake lock rings, as is industry standard. A 3% variance (lower or higher) in total system weight is normal for wheelset manufacturing.

All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh cobbled-rolling-road tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. A max system weight of 130kgs (system weight – total weight of fully kitted up rider, bike and luggage). If a rider is over 105Kgs then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly.
