The Purpose
Beginning with the rims, Proven Carbon Race XC UD follow the principles of the rest of the Proven family, offering tuned compliance and stability with a modern 30mm internal width, but with the goal of making a competitive XC race wheel, low weight. Using carbon UD spokes which can withstand a maximum tensile load of 405 Kgf, Proven Carbon Race XC UD is our lightest mountain bike wheelset to date and features our free H_Care lifetime crash replacement warranty.
Design changes like a reduction to a 22mm rim height and 36mm external rim width naturally reduce materials and weight, but our engineers didn’t stop here. Through the testing and study of carbon processes, resin choices and construction methods, we have been able to shave off every unnecessary gram while reinforcing key structural areas. The result is a front rim weight of 348g and a rear of 369g.
The search for speed didn't just stop at low weight. Our engineers also heavily invested in increasing efficiency by utilising super smooth EZO bearings throughout and updating our ratchet system to the latest S_RapidEngage system featuring a 3x2 pawl design and increased 90T ratchet for an incredible 2-degree engagement angle for instant power transfer from the pedal to the trail.

To ensure the same level of responsiveness and predictability from fewer spokes while ensuring a maximum weight advantage, we have taken a lesson from our range of road wheels and use carbon UD spokes. These incredibly strong carbon fibre spokes weigh just 2.7g each but deliver an astounding 30% increase in 30% less extension under load compared to steel alternatives, making it possible to reduce our spoke count without compromising our ability to hold a line and remain precise and comfortable in challenging race environments.

In-house testing is something we take very seriously here at HUNT and having 24/7 access to our new engineering facility and custom impact test rig ensures we are 100% confident that each new HUNT wheelset meets our high standards. All HUNT wheels models have to pass our harsh rolling-drum fatigue tests for rider weight limits, please see here for more details. Max system weight 135kg (system weight – total weight of fully kitted up rider, bike and luggage). If a rider is over 125kg then an experienced bike mechanic should check the wheel regularly and it is advisable to use tires at max 40psi as this will reduce the fatigue on the wheelset.
We are cyclists ourselves and do of course go above and beyond to offer excellent service if you ever do experience any issues. We carry full spares at very reasonable prices and offer complete support.
